What is Heaven?
Heaven is the domain of spiritual beings. Physical beings have
no business there. Heaven is where God is to be found. It is a
state of joy and peace, of pure bliss in union with God. It is
not limited by space or time; it could be here and now as well
as everywhere and in eternity.

Who are you?
Wherever you go you carry your ID and password. At least you
should be able to answer satisfactorily the question, “Who
are you?” To enter heaven – now or in eternity –
we should be able to say, “I am a spiritual being having
also a physical body.” We should be able to say boldly about
heaven, “I belong here as I am one of the children of God
and this is my father’s home.”

What do you know about God?
I know very little about God as He is beyond human powers of
comprehension. But I know this much:
1. He is omnipresent. He is everywhere and so He is here with
me now. I am in Him and He is in me.
2. He is my father and He loves me and I trust in Him absolutely
and so I fear nothing.

Who is Jesus?
Jesus is God who became man. He is the saviour who opened the gates
of heaven for us and showed us the way to heaven. He is the teacher
who gave us the recipe for making heaven on earth and the criterion
of the last judgement. He gave us the password for admission to
heaven.
|

What is the Recipe? • Be like a
child, trusting fully in God just as a small child trusts its parents.
• Be content with what you have and do not be greedy. •
Live in pure love, loving every one, even enemies. • Live
for others and not for yourself. |

What is the Criterion for Judgement?
We will be judged on the last day on the basis of how we treated those
around us especially the needy, the suffering, the downtrodden. According
to Jesus, the question will be, “What did you do about ‘the
hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the homeless, the sick or the prisoner’?”

What is the Password? The password for admission
to heaven is case sensitive and in block capitals.
It is L O V E.
As we read in the first letter of John, when we live in love we
live in God and God lives in us. Is that not heaven? In the absence
of love there is no joy or peace. “God is love.” Love
is heaven.

Witness
Mother Theresa once said, “At judgement the question is not,
‘How many good things you did in your life, rather He will ask
you, how much love you put into what you did’.” For this
saint love was the basis and motivation for all her actions. She had
also said, “I won’t touch a leper for a million dollars,
but I do it for love.” One day I was at the Kaloor bus stand,
waiting for a long distance bus that was to bring my guest. A woman
in rags, carrying a two-year-old, also in rags, stopped before me
with outstretched hand. Extracting a coin, I refused to put into
the mother’s palm and playfully, with a friendly smile, I
gave it to the child. The instant transformation in the faces of
mother and child was worth a study. Transformation from scowl to
smile, from sadness to joy, from gloom to brightness, from dejection
to hope, from depression to happiness. As they went on their rounds,
the two kept looking back, their faces still radiant with joyous
smile. Had I given a hundred-rupee note with a scowl instead of
the one-rupee coin with the smile, would it have made them as happy?
I wonder. Not the child, I am positive.
